A Few Flower Essences to Help you Sleep

Below is a list of key flower remedies that come to mind when I am asked: Which flower essences can help with sleep difficulties?

White Chestnut one of Bach’s Original essences is the first essence that comes to mind. This essence helps to calm an over active mind, indicated by chattering repetitive thoughts which circulate relentlessly. This restless mind syndrome is most troubling at night when a calm mind is needed to help ease us into sleep and relaxation.

Lemon Balm: This essence facilitates deep relaxation of the mind; it also helps one move into an alpha state more easily.

Blue Vervain: This essence is excellent for tightness and rigidity; it helps to bring about a state of relaxation to the mind and body. This essence is great for Type A, over achiever personalities who have a hard time slowing down and relaxing.

Lavender: This essence is great for nervous insomnia; it has a soothing quality that helps to calm the nerves, mind and spirit. Lavender is a wonderful essence for highly sensitive people, you may also want to combine it with Aspen. Aspen brings strength to highly refined souls who suffer from anxiety.

Blueberry Cactus:This essence works similar to White Chestnut; in that it helps to slow the mind down. Blueberry cactus also has calming properties that helps one to gain deeper states of relaxation, facilitating deeper sleep and more restful sleep.

If you suffer from nightmares trying adding St. John’s Wort to any of the above essences in a sleep formula.

How to Use: If one is high strung and generally has a more anxious personality, these essences can be used throughout the day without fear of falling asleep. For more acute times of anxiety and restlessness you can use these remedies around the evening and before bed.

This is a small list but they are my top recommendations to support a good nights sleep.

Essences for people with ADD and ADHD with Bach Flower Remedies Part 1

Using Bach Flower Remedies for focus, concentration and learning.
Chestnut Bud

If you suffer from or know someone suffering from the symptoms related to ADD/ADHD there are many options available to help you live a better life. It is important to review diet especially the intake of caffeine, refined sugars, gluten and processed foods. These substances should be greatly reduced as they affect the ability to concentrate and focus. Since this blog is about flower remedies I have made a list of Bach Remedies that support focus and concentration. I have also included 3 remedies from FES. This is a partial list and a good starting point to build on.

Chestnut Bud: This is a powerful remedy is useful for learning especially when the person makes the same mistakes repeatedly but fails to learn from them. Chestnut bud is good for all types of learning disabilities. This premier Bach remedy for learning is also good for concentration and attention.

Clematis: This essence is for the dreamer; the person whose head always seems to be in the clouds. Clematis can help one be present, focused and attentive to the task at hand. This remedy is good for people who drift off, whether from lack of interest or mental laziness.

Gentian: This essence helps to bring confidence to a person after a setback; gentian enhances perseverance, confidence and faith. Oh how school has become a competitive environment and the drive for perfection a near pathology. Thank goodness for the support of gentian. The fact of life is there are setbacks but they don't need to stop you in your tracks.

Gorse: This is a powerful remedy for treating pessimism and a complete sense of hopelessness. People suffering in this state see no point in trying because they lack faith in a positive resolution to their challenge. This remedy builds optimism by supporting a sunnier outlook on life.

Hornbeam: This essence is useful for the ‘Monday Morning’ feeling that kids may experience as they dread going to school. It is helpful for staving off procrastination, it helps one to organize better and gather inspiration.

Larch: This essence helps with confidence; good for students who are shy, timid or don’t feel confident enough to embrace their school work. Larch is very useful when beginning to study a new topic or learning a new language or instrument; it helps one to make an effort and ’stay the course’.

White Chestnut: This essence is helpful for calming an overactive mind that is characterized by mental chatter. Those needing this remedy are stuck in their heads along with repetitive thoughts that just race incessantly.

Wild Rose: This essence helps the student to overcome apathy and take a renewed enthusiastic approach to school work. This essence can be extremely helpful for those in the learning environment. Wild rose has tremendous potential to really activate the will and encourage tenacity. The benefits of these qualities can go a long way to enhancing performance and renewing interest.

Peppermint: This flower essence is for mental clarity helping to bring wakeful clarity to a dull, sluggish or lethargic mind. This essence is also good for an unbalanced metabolism which depletes mental forces and hinders focus.

Pink Monkey Flower

Pink Monkey flower essence carries a unique quality; to bring us to a state of emotional honesty. Emotional honesty helps us to look within, accept and access our authentic self. This helps to counteract the fear of being exposed; which is fed by a lack of self acceptance. This fear erodes our sense of worthiness and courage to be emotionally honest with others.

Pink Monkey Flower relates to matters of the heart. When closed due to feelings of guilt and unworthiness, Pink Monkey Flower can help the heart to open and become more trusting. When we hide deep pain in the heart these internalized feelings keep us locked in limited emotional range. The soul requires openness to fully evolve, it does not function healthily on a diet of fear, insecurity, cynicism and loneliness. These feelings also prevent us from making deep connections with others. Feeling a deep nurturing connection with others feeds the human soul on many levels.

Pink Monkey flower helps us to take the type of emotional risks that enhance personal growth and feelings of worthiness. Use Pink Monkey Flower essence to treat childhood abuses that have shut down the heart and caused fear and pain which prevent us from having emotional fulfilling relationships. Emotional honesty with ones self and others is a key to happiness in intimate relationships. If we suffer from the pain of guilt and shame it cuts us off from feeling the warmth that comes from honestly connecting with others.

Bleeding Heart

Bleeding Heart
Bleeding heart is a remedy for the loving dimensions of the heart, relationships and freedom. It is a common wild flower and garden ornamental, it thrives in cool, moist conditions and it prefers light to medium shade.  The flowers occur in a variety of colors from pink, to white to yellow.  The flower essence of bleeding heart is made from the pink variety and is made by FES, who have conducted research on this essence.

The flowers hang open and exposed, free with nothing to hide. This speaks of the action of this essence to encourage an open loving heart free from attachment. The concept of non-attachment is very much a Buddhist concept and when applied to the realm of love it offers us a depth of experience and feeling that is uncommon.  To love another freely without attachment.

Often out of romantic misgivings love can turn to possessiveness and related emotions and conduct. Which leads us further away from the experience of love in the heart and into constriction, fear and apprehension as our heart begins to close at the thought of love going sour.  These feelings and misgivings often proceed the ending of a relationship. When we learn to love with more openness and freedom we can actually begin to attract the love we want into our lives. This essence helps to address feelings of anxiety that surface when we are in relationship.

.

Bleeding Heart Flower Essence is a very powerful heart cleanser and strengthener for those who must learn the deeper spiritual lessons of love and freedom. Those needing this remedy suffer enormous pain and broken-heartedness because their feelings have been poured out so completely into another soul who is no longer present. Perhaps this happens because a loved one has died, or a cherished friend or family member has moved away.

More frequently, such anguish arises in personal relationships which have dissolved or in relationships that are greatly afflicted. Although love for another may have many genuine aspects, very often the Bleeding Heart type has made the error of living too extensively outside the boundaries of its own Self. This intense desire for connection is often felt by the partner as emotional dependence, causing the partner to fill a need for distance. Such a co-dependent relationship is devoid of real freedom and a balanced exchange of heart energies.

The loss and pain which are constantly felt by those in need of Bleeding Heart are therefore necessary experiences, when viewed from a larger perspective. Through Bleeding Heart flower essence, the soul learns to fill itself from within with strong spiritual forces, so that the capacity to love another is based on the ability to honor and nourish the Self.*
